After giving birth, it's generally recommended to keep taking prenatal vitamins for at least six months postpartum or as long as you are producing breast milk. Your body can get pretty depleted in certain nutrients and minerals, making those vitamins just as important postpartum as during your pregnancy!

It's estimated that at least half of postpartum moms will experience a condition known as "postnatal depletion," which is a fancy way of validating that our babies take a lot out of us, leaving us running on empty. Lack of sleep doesn't help!

Typical areas of depletion are:

  • Iron

  • Vitamin B12

  • Zinc

  • Vitamin C

  • Vitamin D

  • Magnesium

  • Copper

Ultimately, it's important to consult your healthcare provider to determine the best course of action for your needs. They can provide guidance on whether to continue taking prenatal vitamins, help you compare brands, and make adjustments based on your health, dietary habits, and breastfeeding plans.
