Colostrum, sometimes called “liquid gold,” is the first milk your body produces after giving birth. It is often thick, yellow (but often can be thinner in consistency and lighter in color) and has a high concentration of antibodies, white blood cells, and other nutrients – all packed in small amounts. Small amounts of colostrum is a feature, not a problem! Feeding volumes for the first day of life range from 2-10 mls/per feeding, this is by design as newborns have tiny tummies which grow quickly in the first days and weeks.
