Attending a wedding with your newborn can be a heartwarming experience, but it also comes with challenges. Here are a few factors to consider when deciding whether or not to bring your little one to the event, assuming it’s okay with the bride and groom.
Logistics to consider
Infants under three months old are particularly vulnerable to germs.
Indoor weddings tend to be louder and can be overstimulating.
Your newborn will need to be fed frequently. It’s a good idea to check with the bride and groom to see if the venue provides a space to change, feed, and soothe baby.
Some weddings provide onsite childcare, which can be a great option for you to stay close while getting some adult time.
If there is no childcare option, consider that not all venues are stroller-friendly, which means you may have to babywear or hold your little one the entire time.
If you choose to bring your newborn
Dress your baby in practical layers and adjust their clothing as needed. Avoid complicated, fussy outfits that may be itchy and uncomfortable for them.
Pack a well-stocked diaper bag. This isn’t the time to run out of diapers or back-up onesies!
Arrive early and secure a quiet place for nursing, changing, or downtime.
Choose an aisle seat during the ceremony for an easy escape if needed.
Don't hesitate to leave the reception early based on how you and your baby are doing.
