What is age-appropriate will depend less on the baby’s exact age and more on their current stage. You’ll want to consider their existing skills and interests within their stage. Once you’ve narrowed down what skills they’re working on, like reaching, batting, and grasping, you can source toys that specifically encourage these skills.
Now that you know what to ask—”what skills is my baby working on?”—here’s a short list of toys ideal for the three-month stage:

  1. Floor mirrorThree-month-olds are building more strength and stability during tummy time, and you may notice they aren’t bobbing their head as much and can lift it about 45 degrees. A floor mirror is an inviting addition to tummy time, giving them something interesting to see while building these muscles!

  2. Activity GymLying down under an activity gym is a great way to hang mobiles, encouraging reaching and bringing hands to midline – big skills that three-month-olds are ready for.

  3. Easy-grab teetherAround three months, babies begin to open their hands. Their grasp reflex will start to disappear, and in the coming weeks, they can grasp objects with their whole hand. Teethers are also safe to mouth, which is in and of itself a way that babies gain sensory feedback and learn about the world.

By aligning toys with your baby's developmental needs, you can provide them with a stimulating and enjoyable playtime experience that supports their growth and learning.
