Sometimes, babies just cry in their car seats and need time to adapt. Or, they’ve had a wet diaper, are hungry, too cold, or too hot. That said, it’s critical to rule out improper car seat installation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that nearly 2 out of every 3 car seats are not installed correctly. Local fire and police departments can offer car seat checks, but they may not have certified technicians on staff. To find a certified car seat technician, you can connect with Safe Kids Coalition.
