Breastfeeding is a personal journey that comes with common, shared challenges. Sometimes, common gets misconstrued as "par for the course," and women isolate themselves, thinking breastfeeding is just supposed to stay hard or painful. Hint: Help is out there!

Here's are some common reasons to reach out to a certified lactation consultant after birth:

  • Sore nipples that persist:Breastfeeding shouldn't be painful. While some discomfort in the initial days is expected, persistent soreness that worsens may indicate an underlying issue.

  • Insufficient weight gain:If you notice that your baby is not gaining weight adequately, it could be a sign that they are not getting enough milk during breastfeeding. A lactation consultant can evaluate your baby's feeding patterns, assess milk transfer, and help you develop a plan.

  • Low milk supply:If your milk production is consistently low despite your efforts to increase it, seeking the expertise of a lactation consultant can be incredibly beneficial. They can help identify the underlying causes, guide techniques to stimulate milk production, and suggest appropriate interventions.

  • Changes in infant feeding plan:On a new medication? Returning to work? Starting to pump? Need help navigating changes in infant feeding due to mom, baby or both? Working with a lactation consultant can help structure needed changes so that infant feeding can be the most efficient, effective and enjoyable as possible.

Breastfeeding is an individual process which can be enhanced by working with a knowledgeable lactation consultant who is an expert on all things infant feeding!
