A baby's soft spot, known as the fontanelle, typically closes and hardens as the baby grows. A soft spot refers to the space between the bones of the skull where bone formation hasn’t completed.

Your baby actually has two soft spots: one on the top of the head and another towards the back. The one on the top is probably most noticeable to you and tends to be larger. This should close between 12 to 18 months of age, while the smaller soft spot on the back of their head typically closes in just a few months.

If you have concerns about the development of your baby's soft spots, it's always a good idea to discuss them with your pediatrician during regular check-ups or if you notice any unusual changes.
