Hair color is set in stone before birth thanks to genetics, but it won't necessarily stay the same shade in those first months or even years of life. On top of genetics, pigmentation can vary by person and is responsible for the shade of our hair color.
In fact, color, texture, and thickness can all change. It's not uncommon for babies to be born with dark hair, trend lighter in toddlerhood, and then trend darker again in childhood. Red can turn blonde. Straight can turn curly. Many babies aren't born with hair at all, or they're born with hair only to shed it a few months later.
Unfortunately, this one doesn't have a straight answer because hair color can technically keep changing. Embrace the surprise element of this feature!
