As new parents, you're undoubtedly eager to provide your baby with a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports their growth and development. One aspect of this is introducing colors in a way that supports their developing vision.

Go for the vivid colors first

Many babies are ready to explore bright colors by around 2 months. It’s easier to go from high contrast, black and white images to the vibrant hues of red, yellow, and blue. For this reason, it can help to purposefully expose your little one to primary colors around this age.

The beauty of gradation

Once they’ve had a few weeks to connect to the bright primary colors, you can transition into the world of gradients, or shades, of color. You can introduce gradients around 2-3 months of age. Start with a single color and introduce the varying shades of that color from light to dark. Try incorporating blues that are slightly different – like powder blue, periwinkle, and turquoise.

By 4-5 months of age, many babies will have good color vision. Continue to offer colors in their environment to inspire their engagement and understanding of our world!
