Some hospitals have lactation consultants who will visit you in your room, but others are only by appointment. Some hospitals may not have any lactation consultants at all. If you do not have access to a lactation consultant after birth, ask your nurse or midwife/OBGYN for pointers. Nurses on the postpartum unit should be able to help with the basics of latching and positioning to get you started on the right note.
