With firm boundaries! Kissing babies goes against best practices- this is true even if your baby was born healthy and full-term. All babies have lower immunity and are susceptible to viruses and bacteria that live in our mouths and are easily exchanged from a kiss. Viruses and bacteria that are not harmful to us could be deadly to an infant. Since kissing can be an instinctive gesture of affection, it’s best to vocalize this clear request. “Before I pass the baby to you, can you please wash your hands? And remember, no kisses while their immune system is so low.”
