Tummy time is an essential activity for your baby's development as it helps strengthen their neck, back, and shoulder muscles, but these benefits aren’t only gained from floor time. Here are some varied positions to try that provide similar benefits:

  1. While seated, position your baby on their tummy across your lap.Ensure your legs provide a stable surface for your baby's upper body. Engage your baby with toys or rattles to encourage them to lift their head and explore during this supported tummy time.

  2. Utilize a nursing pillow to prop up your baby for tummy time.Place the pillow on your lap or a flat surface, ensuring your baby's chest and arms are elevated while their head and shoulders are slightly above the pillow. This position can make tummy time more enjoyable and help reduce fussiness.

  3. Hold your baby against your chest while you lie down on your back. This tummy-to-tummy position allows your baby to have tummy time without putting pressure on the floor. It also provides an opportunity for face-to-face interaction, which promotes bonding and emotional development.

  4. Opt for babywearing in an ergonomic carrier that allows your baby to be upright. Many carriers provide ample support for your baby's head, neck, and back, making it a comfortable way for them to experience tummy time while you're on the move.

Always ensure your baby's safety and comfort during these activities. As with any new activity, consistency and patience are key. It will take time for your baby to build strength and coordination.
