Tummy time is not just a way to facilitate early play for your newborn; It's essential for supporting their motor development.
Tummy time allows your baby to gradually build strength and coordination, supporting later milestones like rolling, crawling, and eventually walking. It can also prevent flat spots on your baby's head by reducing time spent on their back.
Don't be discouraged if your baby only tolerates a few minutes of tummy time at first. This is typical and still quite beneficial. As your baby matures, they will grow into longer sessions.
For safety purposes, tummy time with your newborn should always be supervised. Follow their lead and end the session when they start crying.
