Child development experts recommend introducing new baby siblings in a familiar and comfortable place, like your home. Hospitals can be overwhelming. It’s also advised to greet your older children first, showing them they are still your baby, too. If you cannot wait and your older child(ren) will be visiting you in the hospital, try to place the new baby in the hospital bassinet so that you can greet your children hands-free. Give them as much warm-up time as they need, and don’t pressure them to engage with or hold the new baby.
